Tigris and Lamelle metal mesh: pedestrian bridge in Seattle

Amgen Helix Pedestrian Bridge

Stainless steel metal mesh from GKD clads a spectacular, 120 m long bridge with an appearance reminiscent of a giant, spiral-shaped DNA helix.

The architectural design of the bridge is intended to visibly point the way for visitors to the biotech firm Amgen. For this purpose, the sides of the bridge were cladded with trapezoidal panels made of Tigris and Lago stainless steel mesh. The mesh panels were each clamped to the top of the construction by means of two flat stainless steel elements and fixed to the substructure, while tension springs at the base provide the necessary tension for the architectural mesh.

The bridge including cladding was designed by Johnson Architecture from Seattle and is an exciting new architectural highlight of the city on the west coast of the United States.
