Solar protection façade for Sanral's HQ in South Africa

Decorative and functional façade cladding with architectural mesh from GKD in the capital city of Pretoria.

GKD's Omega stainless steel mesh, which was developed with varying density specifically for the façade of the building, serves as transparent solar protection. The South African architects at Activate were commissioned to design the distinctive two-story office building. Their guiding architectural principle was to create a building with excellent energy efficiency.

Some 161 individual panels with a total area of 779 m² were used for the transparent solar protection system. Certain parts of the metal mesh were attached to the façade at a specific angle to match the incidence of solar radiation.
