Wall cladding: Design fabric in Restaurant Taku

Restaurant Taku, Cologne

Bronze design fabric lends Cologne's Restaurant Taku a partial backlit wall cladding – an excellent example of the use of GKD design fabric for setting the scene in gastronomic interiors.

The Mandarin bronze fabric was the first choice for creating a special spatial impact in Taku. The cult restaurant is located in the basement of the first-class hotel Excelsior Ernst and is an exclusive attraction for trend-conscious gourmets.

In designing the restaurant, the architect team Rainer Jensen and Ulrike Görgl from Mönchengladbach followed an interior-design concept in which natural materials and design fabric complement each other very attractively.

The bronze cladding of the window-like openings for targeted diffusion of light in the restaurant conveys a feeling of spatial depth. The "light windows" are overlaid with stainless steel and bronze fabric. The interplay of the wall cladding's backlighting and reflections creates a special moiré effect – thanks to the high-quality design fabric from GKD.
