Transparent media façades

LED media façade for cruise terminal

Port Everglades

The terminal of the Celebrity Cruises company in the seaport of Port Everglades on the south-east coast of Florida gained a multifunctional LED media façade as a building shell and a woven LED screen on the inner façade during the course of its modernization.

A total of almost 215 square meters of Mediamesh®, the brightest media façade system from GKD for highly detailed playback of a wide range of content both day and night, was combined with around 80 square meters of Tigris stainless steel mesh to realize the aesthetic and functional vision of architects Bermello Ajamil & Partners. The aim was to create a visual journey for cruise passengers waiting to board – at one of the three most important cruise ports in the world.
The window allowed for completing the LED façades was incredibly tight at just one year. In order to accelerate the construction process, GKD created 3D models of the entire outdoor area and all components of the media façades. During the extensive installation work, a GKD specialist was permanently on site to support the work on and in the terminal. Thanks to GKD's precise preparatory planning work, which included communication with the architects and the customer, the installation went without a hitch.
Since its completion, a huge array of content can now be shown on the LED façades: from current weather news and departure times through branding graphics to live programs and artistic displays. At the same time, the semitransparent stainless steel architectural mesh enhances the building and lends it a high-quality look in its own right. As such, the media façades on and in the Celebrity Cruises terminal combine outstanding architectural quality with flexible digital communication.
